A huge-mouthed bottom ambusher that lies half-buried on sand and mud, with a fishing lure on its head. Anglers mostly catch it by accident.[1]

How to recognise it

  • Wide, flat head and body with a huge mouth and thin, loose, scaleless skin.[1]
  • A lure on a long spine above the mouth, ending in two broad leaf-like blades.[1]
